This week at his doctor's appointment they told us to start him on solid foods because his weight isn't quite where they'd like to see it. After telling us this, I tearfully said to Ky "but... that means my baby is growing up! He's not allowed to do that!" while Ky said "yeeeesss!! This means he's getting bigger!" And that folks is the difference between moms and dads.
Weight and height: 14.02 lbs. and 25.6 in.
Hair and eye color: his eyes got significantly darker in the last month; therefore, I rescind my previous comment about his eyes not being as dark as mine. They're definitely as dark as mine. However, his hair is lightening up. In fact, it's coming in blonde. BLONDE!! On my baby!! His dad had white blonde hair as a baby and child, so I guess this is theoretically possible.
Likes: sitting up (with assistance), looking around at what's going on, trying to stick everything within arm's reach in his mouth, the vacuum, playing with his toys, grabbing his ear when he's tired/distressed/hungry/falling asleep - when he grabs his ear, we know something's up
Will put up with: laying in his rock-n-play while I make dinner - as long as it's no more than half an hour of course, getting placed in his car seat
Dislikes: solid foods, long car rides, 8am church
Personality, temperament, and attachment thus far: he still has an easy temperament and is securely attached. It's so fun to see him grow - he's a very social baby. He loves going to new places and meeting new people. He and I both go a little stir crazy if we go a day without leaving the house. He loves when we go grocery shopping because there is so much to stare at - he lets me take my sweet time, which is more than I can say for his father.
Physical feats: he is really trying hard to sit up - he does crunches to try and sit up if you lean him back "too far". He has great ab strength, now we're just working on his back muscle strength. I am so unbelievably bad at doing tummy time, so we'll see how that goes. He is gaining better control over his limbs and can actively grab things around him. His favorite things to grab are his toys, my hair, my shirt while he nurses, and my necklace.
Mama's highlights: he's really learning to smile and laugh in reaction to others' smiles - it's the absolute cutest. Nothing says "thanks for taking care of me" like a huge, toothless grin. He's also starting to depend on me to calm him down if we've been around too many new things and he's overwhelmed. I know a lot of people get annoyed if their kids are overly dependent, and maybe I will eventually, but for now it makes me feel like the most important person on earth.
Now enjoy the following pictures of Garrett!!
